PRODUCT LABELING

Within the International Building Code, products that are required to be certified are also required to be labeled by an approved agency, such as TRU Compliance. Labeling requirements are presented in Section 1703.5 of the 2015 IBC along with the requirements for basis of labeling.

In accordance with the IBC provisions, the approved agency responsible for certification:

  • Testing: An approved agency shall test a representative sample of the product being labeled in accordance with the relevant standard(s). Records of testing shall be maintained and shall provide sufficient detail to verify compliance with the test standard.
  • Inspection: An approved agency shall periodically perform an inspection, which shall be in-plant if necessary, of the product or material that is to be labeled. The inspection shall verify that labeled products are representative of those tested and ensure there are procedures in place to maintain quality.
